evening the revised ordinances were taken up under a suspension of the roles discussed and a number of amendments made contrary to expectations the matter of granting a franchise to tho citizens water works company was not brought up and that matter was allowed to go over until the next meeting soon after the meeting was called to order councilman chambers moved that the order of regular business bo dispensed with and that the consideration of the revised city ordinances be taken up carried on motion of mr chambers the old pound ordinance altet several amendments had been made was substituted for the ano in the revised erdl nance on motion of mr chambers the ordinance relating to salaries was amended increasing the calary of the city recorder from to a month carried acting mayor randall vetoed the increasing tho mayors salary and on vote of the council the veto was overruled the law committee reported on the regulation of he tees and surveyors of the city engineers department the report was adopted the law committee presented an ordinance making it unlawful tor any person or persona to enter into tho business of slaughtering and selling at wholesale any animals without first obtaining a license the ordinance was passed A communication waa received from the acting mayor regarding the building of a sidewalk on tho east side of grant avenue between and twenty sixth streets it was voted to build the sidewalk requested to be constructed by tho mayor on the recommendation of the corn on lira and police it wag voted to purchase 1100 feet of hose for the use of the alre department councilman balne made a motion that bids tor oats tor the use of the alre department bo asked for and that the contract for furnishing the oats be given the lowest bidder the motion was carried sidney stevens presented a bill for 15 due by reason of delay caused by him being held as a witness in a case in which the city of ogden wag interested the claim was allowed city engineer parker reported that lincoln avenue between twenty first and twenty second streets had been brought to grade and was ready to be curbed and guttered it was decided to defer the work of curbing ad guttering on the street until next spring the city engineer asked the council for instructions as to the work in the different curbing and guttering districts and furnished an estimate of tho work to be done before november ast 1st the report of the engineer in charge of the guttering on twenty fifth street and washington avenue was read and on motion ot councilman wiliams WilU ams was adopted tho tha work A communication was received from the independent company regarding the occupation tax assessed against the company was read and referred to the law committee on motion of councilman balne
