Show -oo JOY RIDE IS A SOURCE OF GRIEF Joy-riding with other peoples cars received a sereve set-back today when Harry Paine and JameB Conley were fined $50 or 50 dayb on the lock pile for taking J. F Owen's automobile last evening for a joy-rido with two girls whose names did not appear in the complaint The young wife of Conley was in the court room to listen to the tale told by her errant spouse, how he had been approached by his friend and the two girls and finally agreed to take Owens' car for a ride to Seventeenth street and back to the garage. Be-foro Be-foro returning, however, thoy decided to go to the Sanitarium, where they purchased eight bottles of beer and started for the Hermitage. After spending some lime at that resort, they went a mile pr two further up tho canyon and finally returned to the Sanitarium. During the trip tho glass wind shield of tho car was broken and other damage was sustained. The. judge took the obxo under ad-vlsemont ad-vlsemont until later In tho day when ho Investigated the case somewhat further, finding that Conley was really the dupe of Paine and the girls and that he believed at the time that ho wa3 Justified, in a way, in taking the car. The judgo refused to condone his conduct, however, and would have made hoth sentences 50 days on the rock pile without an alternative fine had it not been for Conley'B wife and the leniency displayed by Owens, the owner of the car. |
