Hart Peterson was plnced on tho Btand and told his story In a straightforward straight-forward manner. Ho said he arrived In Ogdcn yestordav morning and went Into a Twenty-fifth street saloon for a drink. While there Campbell approached ap-proached him and asked him o buy a drink, which he did. Then Campbell Camp-bell asked him for some money to buy breakfast and Peterson gave him a quarter Another man approachod and asked for money to buy food nnd Peterson took him out nnd bought a meal for him. Returning later, the three men met again and, after some conversation, r'etcrson wns enticed back of tho saloon, where Cnmpbell took hold of him from behind while tho other man, said to be John Russell, Rus-sell, went through his pockets. Peterson Pe-terson succeeded In throwing off his assailants and ran back through the saloon to tho street with the two men In pursuit, but when thoy arrived on the sidownlk an officer was encountered encoun-tered nnd arrests wore mndo, though RuseoII escaped. The arresting offlcor corroborated the story In the main points and, as the defendant did not deny the charge nnd gave as his only excuso thut ho was drunk, the court Imposed a thirty-day jail sentence without comment. |
