Active work for the re-nomination and re-election of President Taft. aside froni that done at the White House, began here todav when Representative William B McKinley of Illinois, chairman of tho Republican congressional committee commit-tee took up his new duties as manager man-ager of the Taft campaign Mr. McKinley bogan work early and planned to see many of the .party leaders now In Washington. Quarters Quar-ters for tho Taft boomers havo not been secured but within a few days Mr. McKinley expects to open offices. Although Republican leaders said today that It was too early to talk about tho plans of campaign after the Chicago convention, many friends of Mr McKinley were of the opinion that, if President Taft Is re-nominated, Mr. McKinley will bo his choice for chairman of the Republican National Na-tional committee. Mr McKinle"- probably prob-ably would be acceptable to all the old lino party eaders Some of those leaders hove objected to Postmaster General Hitchcock and Secretary to the President Hilles both prominent, ly mentioned heretofore for national chairman. |
