Georgo Browse, a Greek, aged 30 years, proprietor pro-prietor of a small bakery and grocery 6tore at 595 west Second South street, bad a uarrow" escape from death at 10:20 o'clock this morning when ho was struck by a Denver & Rio Grande passenger train on tho Park City branch nt Twelfth South and State street That Browse was not Instantly In-stantly ground to pieces Is regarded regard-ed as miraculous. BrowBo was driving a single horso hitched to a wagon loaded with bread. He was on his way to Sprlngvllle to fill an order and did not see the passenger pas-senger train as he attempted to drive across the tracks. Browse became confused and did not have time to jump. With a crash the pilot of tho engine struck tho wagon, demolishing it, knocking tbo horse a distance of about 20 feet and carrying Browse and pari of his wrecked wagon a distance dis-tance of 200 yards. Loaves of bread were scattered in every direction for 300 feet. When tho train was stopped Browse and part of the running gears of his wagon, was found on tho pilot of the engine. Uls back was wrenched, wrench-ed, his head bruised and a deep cut on the right side of tho Jaw wns sustained. sus-tained. His injuries, however, are not regarded as serious. The police were notified and Browse was taken to ,the emergency hospital whero Dr. II. B. Spraguo dressed the. wounds, after which the man was sent to his iiome. The horso was not killed but suffered three broken ribs and the animal no doubt will be shot. |
