Show M SOUTH FORK RESERVOIR. There tviII c another meeting of the formers of this district M At the Court House, at 1 p. in., next Saturday, at which further plfrns H will be. made looking toward the raising of money to aid in the H construction of the proposed reservoir in South Fork canyon. H This morning Cfty Engineer Win. Ilostaph started for the South M Fork dam site, Tvhcrc he will -proceed to have uncovered the bedrock, H teams with scrapers being used to displaco much of the ovorbnrden H and make way for the pick and shovel force. H There has been but one doubt expressed as to tho success of the H , undertaking and that is the finding of bedrock for the entire dis- H i tance across the canyon at the point where the dam is to be built. H I Test holes have been put down every fifty feet to bedrock, which is H ) generally accepted as a sufficiuct test, but there are some who dc- H frc to sec the bedrock stripped along the entire width of the fouii- H ) dation. This work will re?iuirc some time but when it is nqaring H I completion there will be no more stock sold at $35 a share as the H very last element of risk shall have been removed. The farmers, of H course, have until October 4 to subscribe any, or all. of $139,000. H ( The prospects are they will not raise that entire amount, so that H now is the time for Ogdenitcs to subscribe the difference which, with H that already offered, will total $350,000. H 1h digging for bedrock, if, by any unforeseen difficulty, the rcs- H J crvoir should be deemed to be not feasible, the project will be de- H I a clarcd off. i The entire expense of this preliminary work is being borne by H the city and, therefore, no one can possibly lose a dollar, even 1 though t- undertaking be found to bc.impossible. H' Jf the large clam should be given up by failure of the people to Hj subscribe the full $350,000, the city will proceed alone to put in a H The Standard today has such unbounded faith in the success of K the project that it unqualifiedly' adyiscs the people of Ogden to in- B vest their money in the undertaking. This paper has never misled B the citizens of Ogden and always has "been extremely cautious in H standing sponsor for any enterprise calling for an investment of the B savings of the people of this community. It would be a most serious H thing to urge those with money to go into this great enterprise and H then, a year or two hence, be compelled to face a failure. Before B roaching a decision, the manager of this paper went carefully over H all the details of the plans for the reservoir. He became convinced H that the undertaking would be made a great success, so much so B that he subscribed his own money before asking others to subscribe. j Competent engineers have checked and re-chcckcd tho figures on B the cost of construction and the storage capacity of the reservoir, H and each re-checking has but offered greater assurance of the suc- H cess to be attained with the building of the dam. That being true, B the Standard does not hesitate to assume the responsibility of urg- K iug every one in Ogden, with money available for the purpose, to Br subscribe for stock in the South Fork project. B A man of mathematical mind or financial acumen is not needed B to figure out the success of the South Fork proposition. Over on B the Davis & "Weber Counties Canal is a practical demonstration of B what can be done on the South Fork. The Davis & Weber Counties B Canal enterprise has been highly successful, and the engineer who H wafi with that project from its inception and who mapped out its B possibilities and directed the same to completion, is now lending his Bj talent and all the persuasion of his tongue and pen to bring the pco- B pie of this city and neighborhood to sec the advantages and profits H in the South Fork reservoir. |
