Show OPENING UP' OF ASPHALT PROPERTY At the annual meeting of tho stockholders stock-holders of tho Og Ion-Lake Shore Oil and Asphalt compnny, hcid on January 2, a now board of directors and officers offi-cers was elected. A B. Corey w-is elected prosldent, M. S. Browning vice president, R. D. Roberts secretary-treasurer. secretary-treasurer. Those three with K. O. Watlis, Joseph Scowcroft, J. F. Smith and O. J. Stlllwell mako up the bourd of directors. This company has In tho last few months been doing development work on the asphalt properties on tho north shore of Great Salt Lake, eleven mllos south of Rozell, a station on tho old lino of the Southern Pacific. A woll has been drilled in Iho lake about a thousand feet from shoro to a deptli of 220 foot, whoro a strong flow of asphalt as-phalt was oncountcrod. The flow was so heavy that they were unablo to drill deeper with tho No. :: KnjKtone drilling outfit It Ib tho Intention of tho compnny to operate this well at Its present 'depth an J to drill other wells of larger diameter and greater depth aud It Is beliovcd that a largo production can bo obtained on an economical eco-nomical basis. In a few hours' run about twenty-five barrels of asphalt wero taken ' from the well with tho woll drilling outfit and when the proper pro-per equipment Is installed the members mem-bers of tho company believe a good daily production may be had from tho nresent well. Tho asphalt produced is of a high quality, requiring but llttlo refining to tako off a small quantity of lubricating oil, which leaves the hard gum asphalt, as-phalt, suitable for uso In tho manufacture manu-facture of tarnishes, roofing and metal met-al paints and street paing. This may he tho boglnnlng of an Important Industry for the stato of Utah. Tho extent" of tho asphalt field has not been dctormlned. but seepages have been located In tho lake on tho property of tho Ogdon-Lake Shoro Oil and Asphalt company running In a line from the northwest to southeast south-east for a distance of threo thousand feet, and it believed that a largo body of asphalt has been tapped. It Is tho intention of tho company to push tho work of drilling wells nnd dovcloping the property and tho owners own-ers expect to bo ablo to put asphalt on the market in large quantities within with-in the noxt few months. The Utah. Oil and Liquid Asphalt company and tho California Asphalt company hold leases adjoining tho property of the Ogden-Lake Shore company and expect to do considerable considera-ble work during tho coining summer In determining tho value of their claims. nn |
