Show oo SALT LAKE WOMAN INVENTS NEW GAME Salt Lake, Jan. 5. The imention of games may appeal to many as being tohir Idea of "nothing to do," but there are neerlheles3 those who devote de-vote their time to devising means of indoor entertainment and with the exception of the standard games, as approved by Hoyle, there is a 'constant 'con-stant demand for new games. Salt Lake has in 3Irs. C. V. Browe, 435 East Third South street, an Inventor In-ventor of games and devices lor playing play-ing games Mrs. Browe has been a widow since 1SSC, when her husband, W. C. Browe, then postmaster of Salt Lake, died during his first yeai in office. Since his death Mrs Browo has resided in Salt J,ake and as a means df occupying her time began some years ago to invent new games. She has disposed of certain of these to manufacturers and others are under un-der consideration. Really interesting games of cards havo been devised by Mrs. Browe and among them she has arranged a deok of fifty-two cards with which all the standard card games may be playe'd, but the suits are represented bj four different colors col-ors and six-pointed stars take the place of the familiar hearts, spades, dlamondp and clubs. These stars arc also arranged in different designs from the ordinary groupings. Mrs Browe says she devised this game, which she calls "Folly," to overcome the prejudice preju-dice of many persons for the ordinary form of playing cards. Mr and Mrs. Browe came to Salt Lake from. Denver in 1SS3, .when he was appointed city ticket agent for the Denver & Rio Grande railroad. The trip from Denver was made In the first through sleeping car between that point and Salt Lake over the Rio Grande route. Mr, Browp's appointment appoint-ment to the office of postmaster of Salt Lake CItv was the first appointment appoint-ment made in Utah, by President Cleveland. |
