Show COAL WAGON DRIVER HAS NARROW ESCAPE Salt Lake, Jan. n Hcber Glenn, 10 years of age, driver of a coal wagon wag-on for the Citizens Coal company, underwent un-derwent an ordeal yesterday which, according lo witnesses, would have resulted in death or serious injury in ninety-nlno cases out of a hundred, but from which young Glenn emerged without receiving as much as a scratch. A coal wagon weighing, about two tons and loaded with one ton of coal got beyond tho control of Glenn. One wheel 'passed ver his Wend and another an-other wheel passed over his abdomen. Bystanders believed (hat he must surely be injured unto death. Glenn was taken to the emergency hospital at the police station and was care-fullv care-fullv examined by Dr. H. B. Sprague, assistant city physician. AH hough the young man was exceedingly sore about the hend and abdomen, ho was found to be uninjured. The singular accident occurred at the corner of G street and Fifth avenue av-enue about C oVlock last evening. Tho wagon which Glenn was driving driv-ing slipped from a bridge crossing a roadside ditch and it was necessary that the driver hitch the horses to the rear of the wagon and pull It ou of the hole After this had been done the horses wore unhitched from the rear of the vehicle and left standing while Glenn backed his wagon in proper position again to tho animals. The "wagon was standing on an incline. in-cline. Glenn took the tongue, and, in turning, tho wagon got beyond his control. He slipped on the ic road and the wagon started down tho hill, the fiont wheel passing over his head and the rear wheel over his abdomen, abdo-men, ' After being examined at the emergency emer-gency hospital, Glenn was sent to his home, 05 South First West street, none the worse for his experience. |
