The flames started while the hotel, which Is a gathering place for stockmen from all parts of the country, was crowded with guests. Tho fire started In tho kitchen kit-chen and the crowded dining room was soon filled with smoke, causing a stampede of guests, many of whom left thoir valuables in their rooms, so eager were they to oscape. Later it was declared that all thoeo on the t upper floors had been rescued. I Many of the guests had oxciting escapes. A livestock commission man i ond his wife, who escaped from their room thinly clad, woro so benumbed by tho cold that they could not descend des-cend tho fire escape and wore carried car-ried to the ground by flremon.
