Show SURVEY FOR RAILROAD. Salmon City, Idaho, Aug. 7. That there is a large crew of Union Pacllfc or Short Line surveyors ut work on tho Middle Fork of the Salmon river Li tho report of Georgo Dickio, a miner min-er from tho Thunder mountain country who U now in town. It is known that tho Short Lino people have been considering the possibilities of a route through this tectlon, continuing their line from Mackay via Challis. Thoro are two routes by which a lino could be constructed from Mackay Mac-kay to the Middle Fork. One Is up the Salmon river to tho mouth of Morgan Mor-gan creek, thence over the divide to the Forney section, and down Camas creek to the Middle Fork. Tho other routo Is from Mackay to Challis via Antelope valley or to the head of Big Lost river, or Thousand Springs val-le, val-le, to tho oast fork of Salmon river, thence up tho Salmon river to Stanley basin. i This would open up a great lead mining section, as well as affording a downhill pull for soma of the most valuable of Cnster county mines. It Is conjoctured that If theBe are Union Pacific surveyors that company is trying try-ing to head off the Gillmoro & Pittsburg Pitts-burg in the route down the Salmon river, as the company which can first build to tho box canyon will get the only feasible route to tap the Snako river. |
