Show Y.KI.C.1. 1ST SECURLJ26,000 If SALT LAKE, April 23, Unless the I , M. C. A association raises $26,000 I by Mav 21 next the building, whlrh is I I valued" at $250,000. will be sold on a I r foreclosed mortgage. This dire neces. B; sity has caused Secretary Wright to make unusual efforts to raise thexmon-I! thexmon-I! ey. Since he came to Salt Lake, about six months ago, he has been able to ' reduco the debt of the institution I I greatly, but he has no funds available I with which to meet the mortgage. i "Everybody says," said Secretary Wright yesterday, "that the Y. M. C H A. building will never be taken away from the association. They sav the citizens will not allow it That Talk Is H all very well, but unless we raise the sum by May 21 wo shall lose thp build- ) ing. Now Is the time for citizens to I I come forward with substantial tokens I of their appreciation, for optimistic I views, unaccompanied bv the cash, I ' will not sayo our building." I t Plan Now in View. I Because of this emergency the lnter- national committee of the Y M. C. A M has sent Fred D. Shipp to assist Sec- retary Wright, but the latter hopes that a plan already evolved will bring in the funds needed. This plan con- II sists in getting prominent contributors' k of the Y. M. C. A. to write to a select-Hi select-Hi ed list of Individuals and firms asking I . them to donate $100 apleco to save the building. I The following contributors, all of whom havo given $5,000 or more to the Y'. JI. C. A., have promised to sign letters asking for $100 contributions-'David contributions-'David Keith, U. C. Jackling, C. W. Whitley, John Dern, M. H. Walker and W. V. Rico. A list of 200 firms and individuals has already been prepared and the letters will be sent out during the week. "The theory Is," said Secretary Wright, "that no matter how hard up any one of these firms and persons on the list may be, they can spare $100 rather than see our fine building sold. They will be requested to matte Immediate Imme-diate response, and we expect to be able to savo our homo In this way." Contingent Subscriptions. The Y. M. C. A. has many subscriptions subscrip-tions which are contingent on some other thins being done. Some of them are contingent on the home being cleared and turned over to a board of trustees fqr the benefit of the Y. M. C. A. If the building is lost by foreclosure fore-closure these subscriptions will lapse, making the loss oven more than the quarter of a million dollars that the building and Its site are worth. Secretary Wright, however, Is confl-dent confl-dent that tho letter signed bv such in-fluential in-fluential names will bring "in funds with which to meet the mortgage. ThS-k |
