Show INSTRUCTION IN TANNING. In ordor to secure Instruction especially espe-cially adapted to meet the need of systematic and practical training in the art of tanning and finishing leather, leath-er, the National Association of Tanners Tan-ners has decided to co-operate with Pratt institute. Brooklyn. Two courses are offered a trade course in tanning intended for men already engaged In the Industry, and a technical techni-cal course in tanning and leathor chemistry, designed for graduate chemists , who desire (o specialize In this Hue. The one-year course in tanning is designed to give training In the art ot tanning .and finishing. Students in this course will become familiar with dotals of the art by actual work in the institute's tannery at Pratt. ' In addition to the work in the tannery there will be lnst Miction In chemistry, principles of leather manufacture and Industrial chemistry, electrical and, steam power machinery, and drawing and lanuery design. The one-year course- "for advanced chemists is conducted In close relation rela-tion to '-he practical requirements of tlio tannory Practice Is afforded in the actual tanning and finishing of leather, and special Instruction is givon In the chemistry of leather and in other closely related branches, such as dyeing and the preparation and testing of dyes, soap making and i the manufacture of chemicals, ex-tiacts, ex-tiacts, leaches, etc., entering into tanning operations. Attcnlon is also paid to steam and electrical power machinery and to tannery design. |
