Show REHEARSING FOR THE CHAUTAUQUA A unique scene will appear on the blnifs opposite Glenwood park in the rear of the school for the deaf at 7 o'clock this evening. It will be a rehearsal re-hearsal by the children of seven Sunday Sun-day schools for the flag scene In the great Pioneers' day distorical pageant to be presented at the Chautauqua next Monday. After the rehearsal the Chautauqua committee will treat the youngsters to ice cream, so it Is very certain that all tho Sunday school chlldron invited will be there. Last evening tho visitors to Glenwood Glen-wood park were surprised to hear, far-off on tho bluff, voices In song. These were the young mon practicing the songs of tho Mormon pioneers who crossed tho plains in 1847. This, too, Is to jbc one of the features of the great historical pageant on Monday, There ould b no mor appropriate place for the staging of this wonderful pageant than the picturesque bluffs of Glenwood park Tho remarkable piece of work on nature's great stage will doubtless be witnessed by thousands of people. Word was received yesterday that Rev. Fred O Kelley, tho hoad of tho boy scouts of the state, would arrive Friday to take full charge of the picked patrols of boy Bcouts who are to act as Chautauqua guards and aides. Mr. .Kelley will also have' charge of the emergency hospital which Is to be maintained by the scouts. President F. M Drlggs. of the State School for the Deaf and Blind, Is home and Is busv arranging for the big opening open-ing day of the Chautauqua on next Friday, and for the great meeting on Pioneers' day In the Interest and development de-velopment of the resources of TTtah. Governor Hanley of Indiana will be forced to make a hard trip In order to reach this city in time to fill his lecture lec-ture engagement on the opening day. He Is at present in California and will leave Pacific Grove at 4 o'clock on Thursday morning, covering eighteen miles In automobile In order to catch the Ios Angeles-San Francisco -Southern Pacific train, which will land him in Ogden In lime to appear on the Chautauqua program at 2 o'clock Frl-dav Frl-dav afternoon. Other prominent speakers, instructors instruct-ors and entertainers will begin to arrive ar-rive in the city tomorrow. Many of them are planning an outing in connection con-nection with tho Utah Chautauqua and will stay at tho Hermitage during their visit In tho city. f |
