Show H SUCH A HOLLOW LAUGH. H The Herald-Republican has seen Senators Cummins, Clapp and Bristow in such awkward positions over the Canadian reciprocity agreement that it has almost collapsed with laughter. Those pro- gressive" senators are demanding that instead of breaking down a schedule or two in the Payne-Aldrich law, by recrprooity, the entire measure be revised downward. And that is such a funny sugges- tion the editor of the Salt Lake paper is convulsed in laughter. His paroxysms are as genuine as those of the laughing clown on the stage. H Is there anything inconsistent in demanding a general revision H and resisting the Canadian agreement because it fails to meet that demand and is regarded simply as a palliative? Is that attitude of) H Cummins and his colleagues so incongruous as to make any one hys-H hys-H terical except a buffoon? While we are in favor of Canadian reciprocity, regardless of the H necessity of a general revision of the tariff, we concede to Senator H Cummins his right to insist on more radical legislation affecting both H manufacturer and farmer. |
