Show Spartans Win Region Grid Title I South Cache's touted Spartans came from behind to down their traditional foes, the North Cache Bulldogs 14-7 Tuesday afternoon and clinch their first undisputed region one football championship in history. The game was played on a muddy field before a large crowd of homecoming' fans. The Bulldigs broke out in front midway in the second quar-I quar-I ter when Keith Hughes fumbled a pass from center on a fourth down punt and Nathan Done spilled him on the South Cache 16 yard line. Bob Bullen, Bulldog fullback, and Earl Pilkington, halfback, half-back, led the group attack that netted a score in five plays. Jay Van Noy kicked the extra point. The new champs failed to get their attack started ' until the fourth quarter. Dean Larsen sprinted 35 yards around end to put the ball at midfield. Dick Seamons passed to Thair Allen for a .good gain and Bill Lindley put the hall in scoring position with an end-around. Hughes plunged over and then made the extra point. The second Spartan score came followed immediately. Another end around set the ball on the Bulldog Bull-dog 30. Larsen, Allen and Seamons Sea-mons alternated until Larsen slipped off-tackle to score. Carvel Car-vel Jackson kicked the placement. The Spartans made 15 first downs to five for the losers. |
