Show mmu to lose ,GC GASrIP I Following the exchange of num- erous telegrams and letters to Utah's Senator Murdock and Congressman Con-gressman Granger and CCC director direc-tor Charles H. Taylor, there is little chance, that Cache county will continue to have a CCC camp, according t Mayor William Evans Jr. Telegrams just received from the legislators state that unless the present set-up of the CCC is changed the Hyrum camp will be permanently closed. Following is a letter to Mayor Evans from Charles H. Taylor, acting director of the CCC explaining ex-plaining the action taken. June 14, 1941 Mr. Wm. Evans, Jr. Mayor, Logan City Commission r TTf-aVi Dear Mayor Evans: Receipt is acknowledged of your telegram of June 9, 1941, with reference re-ference to the discontinuance of Camp F-34, Hyrum, Utah, and requesting re-questing its continuance. In reply you are advised that the Director approved the closing of Camp F-34, under date of March 15, 1941, based upon the recommendations of the Forest Service, Department of Agriculture, for the reason that considerable difficulty is being experienced in securing a sufficient numDer ui enroUees to properly man the camps, together with a very substantial sub-stantial reduction in the appropriation appro-priation of the Civilian Conservation Conserva-tion Corps for the fiscal year 1942, which apparently will necessitate the closing of over 250 present operating op-erating camps. In addition to the above, the Director is also obligated obligat-ed to transfer work companies to important National Defense work on Military Reservations. It is regretted that under the situations referred to there was no alternative Dm, w Camp F-34. Sincerely yours, CHARLES H. TAYLOR, Acting Director. |
