Show State Employee Leaves After Long Service Ezra C. Knowlton, cheif engineer engi-neer of the state road commission, commis-sion, and a state employee since 1915, left his office in the state capitol Monday to take a position posi-tion as civil engineer under Lieutenant Lieu-tenant Colonel Elmer G. Thomas, Thom-as, army construction quartermaster quarter-master for Ogde-n and vicinity. He reported for his new duty Tuesday morning. Knowlton who has been in the-state the-state captiol probably longer than any other person, first went to. work as a carpenter on the construction con-struction of the capitol building while attending the University 0 Utah, and a year after it was. completed started work with the Road Commission. During his period of employment there, the state has spent about $96,000,000 on its highway system. He has served under six governors gover-nors and eight state administra-trations. administra-trations. He has served a resident or project engineer on some of the largest road projects In the state's, history, as district engineer, construction con-struction engineer, maintenance engineer and since 1937 as chief engineer.
