Show THE RED, WHITE AND BLDE. The following is clipped from our esteemed fiiend, Taa Annrican Fork Iadepenlent: "The flag that was hoisted on Washington's Wash-ington's birthday at Vernal, Uintah count7, was found cut down, lying on the ground and bespattered with mud. Every town is infested with a Bet of hogs disguised as human beings, and toe only way that their identity is disclosed dis-closed is by their actions. They should De cut off from human society, branded and fed at a trough." There is something back of this that arouses thought. Without a love for them the laws are of no effect. They are of no force or value. So, too, in the family, the mother must iiave the love of her children, chil-dren, and to enjoy this privilege she must have their every confidence, their entire respect-It respect-It Is just beyond the knowledge of the readers of today's paper when the colonies colo-nies arose as one, and, for the first time in recorded history, by a written declar. alion, presented their canse to the world. Iv was not rebellion it was not revolution. They were oDjustly held in restraint, and revolution followed. Those In whose keeping -lay the enact cunt of laws and the others having charge of their execution had abused their effices. The colonies withlrew their confidence and respect, and, so far as the infant and unformed republic was concerned, the tyranny (for such it wat-) long established was broken. In this Vernal case is presented almost al-most a like picture. Adjoining terri tozies with less wealth, less population, are recognized and made sovereign statrs -because they have a political complexion in accord with that of the dominant party. Here where the pioneer could take rest in the early days of this west and find food and shelter; where the people have ever more than kept pace with ad joining political divisions in all that make up the qualifications; wherein culture, in ihe arts, in educational facili.ies, in docility, in respect for the laws, the traditions, the customes, this people is yet held as a little child and told to smile upon her fortunate sisters whom t he cradled, bnt who now in the halls of congress seem silently to permit per-mit Utah be prostituted by the party in power. With every right outraged, every pare thought questioned, each act condemned in advance, can oue wonder that in such times as these some of this people should, in cemmemoration of tbe natal day of him who so largely sympathized with those who demanded the largest liberty for every people, some should take it upon themselves to express themselves and their fe jlings for those now in authority? Confrary to. what might be expectid, this people has uniformity loved and revered the red, white and bine, the flag which is symbolic of liberty, and continues con-tinues in that love. Let the people -be (patient. The sun will arise on a day not far distant when Utah will be received into the statehood state-hood as fair as the fairest, and then justly should our esteemed friend hurl his bitterest words at the perpetrator ef so great an outrage. But whoever the guilty partie smiy be let some of our 'patriotic" friends make them known. |
