The. southernmost point of the mainland is Cape Sable, Ha., which is 49 miles farther south than the southermost point in Texas. Tex-as. The northermost point is in Min nesota. the eastermost point is West Quoddy Head, near Eastport, Me., and the westermost point is Cape Alva. Wash. From West Quoddy Head due west to the Pacific Ocean and the country is 2.807 miles wide, while the shortest distance between the Atlantic and Pacific Is 1,152 miles, between points near Charleston Charles-ton S.
