Show GOING IS GOOD The Old Mormon trail, sometimes called the Arrowhead tra.l. leading from Salt Lake through the entire length of Utah, cutting across the northwest corner of Arizona and on through southern Nevada t oCalifor-nia, oCalifor-nia, is reported to he in excellent con dition by Randall L. Jones, of the Union Pacific publicity department, and F. D. B. Gay of the Deseret News Tourflnding department, who returned return-ed yesterday from southern California, Califor-nia, after spending 30 days in California's Cal-ifornia's leading winter resorts, her- aiding the advantages and beauties of Utah's scenic marvels. Mr. Jones has been giving a lecture, lec-ture, illustrated with 150 colored slides, of the beauty spots in Utah and the north rim of the Grand canyon can-yon and the Deseret News Tour-finder has been working to divert the automobile au-tomobile and other winter travel to return east via Utah and Salt Lake City. The old Mormon trail is report ed to be in the best condition in its history through Nevada and Arizona. The Arizona strip, as the road across ac-ross the northwest corner of Arizona Arizo-na has been called, has recently been greatly improved. Several of the very steep grades and rough stretches have been eliminated and a newroad has been built that puts this particular parti-cular piece of country in the good roads column. The road between St. Thomas and Las Vegas has been raked for about 40 miles by the public spirited citi-sens citi-sens of the little communities of S.t Thomas and Bunkerville. Many of the rough stretches of this section have been improved, making the entire en-tire route between St. George Utah, and Las Vegas. Nevada, a distance of 145 miles, an exceptional piere of desert trail. This road is open to auto travel 12 months in the year, and is the only auto road between Salt Lake City and the Pacific that is traveled the year round. Thi route is booked for a large early "-pvel this spring as the tourist is j ;si beginning begin-ning to realize that this is the natural na-tural outlet across the great scenic wonderland of Utah. Colorado and connecting with the north rim of the Grand Canyon the visitors point out: It is also the short rr.ute between Denver and the coast. As a national park highway it is said to have no competitor in American tjavel. Leaving Denver the visitor can take in the Rocky Mountains National Park if desired, cros.-; central Utah to Bryce canyon, Cedar Breaks, Zion National Park, go down to the north rim of the Grand canyon and on to the Piuiflc coast, thus making the greatest scenic tour trip of the world At present the road between .Vcphi and Beaver is muddy but passable. Below Beaver the roads are in excellent ex-cellent condition all the way to Los Angeles. Deseret News. |
