Show Economy and Efficiency of Machines in Milking An extensive study as to the economy econ-omy and t-fficiency of milking machines ma-chines Is being made by the dairy husbandry hus-bandry department of Iowa State college, col-lege, Ames, Iowa. While the work Is not completed, the most recent results Indicate that: 1. The use of the machine does not affect the milk (low. 2. Willi a herd of approximately 25 cows, time saving amounts to about 48.o per cent. One man with a machine ma-chine can replace two mcu baud milking. milk-ing. 3. One man operating two mills Is more eflioient than If he attempts to operate three units. 4. Unless great care Is exercised In cleaning the machine and in operating it, the bacterial count will be higher than with hand milking. 5. The sediment content of machine-drawn machine-drawn milk Is lower than that of band-drawn band-drawn milk. |
