Year ISS3 Saw First Union of Machinists The International Association of Machinists grew out of an organization organiza-tion of 19 machinists of Atlanta, Ga.. formed on May 5. 1SSS. which called Itself the United Machinists and Mechanical Me-chanical Engineers of America. In May. lSO. a convention was held at Atlanta, which was attended by 22 delegates representing 34 locals in 14 states This convention elected national na-tional oilicers and changed the name i-f the organization to National Association Asso-ciation of Machinists. In 1S01 the name was changed to the International Internation-al Asociat inn of Machinists because of the expansion of the organization Inin Canada.
