Business Busi-ness College Scholarship campaign: Gertrude Dewey ....2,701,000 Audrey Raines 2,475,000 Olive Hardy, Minersville 1,470,500 Evelyn Hickman 625,500 Hannora Hutchins ....619,500 Selma Johnson 37,500 Thelma Thompson 22,000 Warren Ferguson 21,000 Dean Johansen 13,000 Mrs. Gertrude Baxter Dewey is the winner of the six months scholarship scho-larship and $25 cash offered by The Milford News and the L. D. S. Business college in the subscription-scholarship campaign which came to an end with a whirlwind finish Wednesday evening. Miss Audrey Raines is the winner of second prize, a three-months scholarship scho-larship and a similar amount in cash, and Miss Olive Hardy of Minersville is winner of the third prize, $15 in cash. The campaign, which was conducted con-ducted by A. H. Churchill, with Dan Ferguson of Milford as his able assistant, has been a success in everye way. The News has gained materially in its subscription subscrip-tion list which is a decided advantage ad-vantage to us and to our advertisers, advertis-ers, who will thus gain greater coverge without any increase in rates, at least for the time being; two very worthy young women have gained opportunities to attend at-tend the outstanding business college col-lege of the west for six and three months without further tuition costs; and the Minersville young woman anil the other workers in the contest have earned prize and cash commissions that have made tli is expenditure of time worthwhile worth-while not to mention the invaluable in-valuable salesmanship training and development of initiative that have come to those who stayed in the race. At the same time, the response of the people of the community and those who have subscribed from hundreds of miles away: with new subscriptions and payments pay-ments on old and renewal accounts, ac-counts, shows us that the people of western Beaver county and western Beaver county's friends are alive to the importance of properly supporting the only paper pa-per in the world which pays taxes in and has the interests of this section at heart first, last and all the time! For Mr. Churchill, too, we must say a word: He is a very successful success-ful campaign manager even at long range, which was made necessary in this instance by the attempt of "Church" to conduct campaigns in Milford and Beaver at the same time. He is able, resourceful, re-sourceful, honest and a square-'shooter square-'shooter and we wish him luck wherever he goes. For the school which has cooperated coop-erated with The News in making the scholar.-hips available, also we have the very highest regard as an institution which brings out the best in character and ability in it.- students and enjoys an enviable en-viable demand for those students in western business circle. And as winners of The News campaign, the school will be getting two ' young women of the finest type jwho will take their places as I creditable students of the institu-1 institu-1 tion. |
