Show THE OLD ARMY GAME A few Milford citizens have approached ap-proached us the past week urging drastic action if satisfactory progress prog-ress is not made in the direction of better toll service for Milford. ' We reminded our friends that large corporations (and there are none larger than American Telephone Tele-phone & Telegraph Co.) probably invented the "old army game." That's where when the private wants something he asks the sergeant, ser-geant, who takes it up with the lieutenant, who approaches he captain cap-tain on the matter, and after tb.2 captain talks with the major and the major gets the opinion of the colonel, they may decide to do something about it if the colonel don't decide to see the general and the general the chief of staff. By the time the private gets permission per-mission to go ahead for it all comes back thru the same channels he's either been transferred to smother post or discharged. With corporations, an ordinary gripe takes a long time to reach headquarters if it ever does. Our Milford gripe has had a little pushing, push-ing, so might get to the boys with power to act a little quicker, but Rome wasn't built in a day nor corporations empowered to act on anything in a week. We shoudn't forget our goal adequate, direct toll service out of Milford, but we shouldn't get too impatient. And let's don't "take it out" on the local representatives of the corporation they're the privates and doing their darnedest to make up for the inequities of the generals. |
