E. Monson, secretary of state, j and President J. Reuben Clark jr., I one-time United States ambasa- dor to Mexico, gave a veTy fine talk on "Our Intangible Resources." Resourc-es." The principal speech of the evening eve-ning was delivered by Dr. Adam S. Bennion, assistant to the president presi-dent of the Utah Power and Light company, and former L. D. S. commissioner of education. He was unsparing in his criticism ol many of the conditions of today and declared that the nation was headed toward bankruptcy in spending more than is being taken in, with revolution or inflation threatened unless a halt is called reminding "his hearers, however, that increasing government services servic-es constantly toeing demanded by the public cannot be had without expecting to pay the bill. Mr. Greenwood served as chairman chair-man of the evening meeting as well as that of the afternoon. Features of the evening session included a rollcall of counties with only one responding from Beaver county (and none from Iron county) coun-ty) and the suggestion that those seated at each of the innumerable tables should elect a chairman ol tha,t group and discuss with him any and all ways in which the "Build Utah" program might be made fully useful in the advance-! advance-! ment of all legitimate Utah interest, inter-est, these sueeestions to be com piled and forwarded to Mr. Green-wo( Green-wo( data later date. Music for the afternoon gathering gather-ing consisted of selections by the University of Utah quartet, while a male quartet under the direction of Howard Frazee furnished solo and group numbers during the j banquet. |
