Show ifLivestoclc ,i,SituatioixJ A '. Los Angeles Union Stock Yards, October 2 Interest Of livestock growers and feeders on the Pacific coast is now centered' on the 14th Annual 48th District Agricultural Association Great Western Livestock Live-stock show, which is to be held October 28 to November 3 at the Los Angeles Union stock yards. The management of this show has, since the inception of the annual event, attempted to make the exposition ex-position of practical assistance to the livestock and meat industry. Constant improvement in the quality of meat animals must be stressed each year in order to successfully suc-cessfully compete for consumer demands. It is in this respect that the Great Western Livestock show is proving of tremendous value to the livestock industry, because the practical use and availability of improved1 breeding animals is stressed. The outstanding feature .of the 1939 show will be the display dis-play and judging of more than 200 range and herd1 bulls. The range bulls will be exhibited in lots of five and will be judged for their usefulness as range animals of the modern type, low-set, thick and' early maturing. After the animals have been judged, they, will be classified and sold at auction, thus giving buyers the added benefit of the judgment of a leading range authority. This year's judge of range bulls will be Frank Smith, operator of a large cattle ranch at Thermopolis, Wyo ming. Consignments -of (breeding bulls and heifers will come from California, Oregon, Washington, Utah and several other western states. Probably it will be one of the largest and most representa tive auction sales of Hereford bulls ever held on the Pacific coast. j Another highly educational fea- j ture of the livestock show will be the display of "short-fed" cattle which have been on full rations not less than 90 days nor more than 120 days. It is during such . a period of feeding that commer- j cial feeders find' it most economical economi-cal to finish cattle, and the cattle carry just about the amount of fat and lean most desired cn the Pacific Paci-fic coast. m |
