Show Deer On Fishlake j In Better Shape Last Few Weeks Due to the drouth during the summer months and to the overpopulation over-population of deer on most of the ranges within the Fishlake national nation-al forest, deer have been in rather poor flesh condition during the spring and summer months, and this condition has caused considerable consider-able concern to sportsmen, fish and game officials, forest officers and others interested in big game; but the recent storms have done much to remedy this condition. Last week Orange A. Olsen of Ogden, who is in charge of wildlife wild-life management for the forest service in Region 4; Albert Albert-son, Albert-son, supervisor of the Fishlake national na-tional forest, with headquarters at Richfield; and Ivan Christensen, j ranger in charge of the Fillmore district, spent four days riding the game ranges on the west side of the forest, checking on game and range conditions. Supervisor Albertson reports that although the forage on the ranges within the Fishlake forest has been utilized much closer this year than usual, recent storms have aided very materially in stimulating new growth and the condition of both the forage and the game animals is very much improved over what it was a month ago. Rangers report plenty cf deer on all parts of the forest and it is believed that by October 21 they will be in excellent flesh condition so that hunters going onto the Fishlage forest to get their deer will not be "disappointed in any way. Albertson states that two read maintenance crews are at work smoothing up all the main roads into the forest and that . a construction con-struction crew is at work roughing rough-ing out a road into Hunter's flat, on the Glenwocd mountain district, dis-trict, so as to make as many as possible of the best hunting grounds readily accessible to automobile auto-mobile travel. Never before has so much effort ef-fort been put forth and so much money expended on forest roads and other facilities to make the deer hunt pleasant and successful for the hunter. M |
