Show If you wish to establish a reputation for bein' a wise man, there is one certain way to do it: Be a believer in the future. Mer who have no confidence in the future demonstrate, dem-onstrate, in the lon' run, that they lack vision and insight. fn 188(5 a high government official announced an-nounced that all of the canals and railroads" had been built, and that there would be no further progress in transportation in the United States. At about the same time, another an-other profound thinker was making the statement that the physical sciences had leached a stationary condition. When these two false prophets were airing their views, Thomas A. Edison was 39 years of age, Henry Ford was 23, Steinmetz was 21, Or-ville Or-ville Wright was 15, Marconi was 12, and Einstein was 7 years of age. The men who made those statements were not believers in the future, so they turned out to be bad prophets. The wise nian is he who believes that greater things will come to pass. Dr. .Gorman Vincent Peale. Just as foolish as the prognosticated ol 1886 are the wise boys that tell us today that the mines of Beaver county are all worked out - that we never did have but one rich mine and it's all low-grade ore now; that the railroad is starting a cutback in personnel and Milford is facing another period of no-rail-payroll-depression; that the land in South Milford, which can grow everything every-thing grown elsewhere in Utah, can grow nothing because there is no additional water to be had. Just as screwball are the takc-it-easy boys that sadly shake their heads when development depending upon community cooperation or county-wide teamwork team-work is mentioned. The facts of the matter are that Milford and Beaver County have as rosy a future .today as the nation had in 1886. This is the only known undeveloped mineral region in the west. The railroad cutback is but a temporary one, forced upon the operators by the nationwide strike wave. The area surrounding sur-rounding Milford has underground streams in abundance that are as pure as any water to be found, and wells tapping those streams can furnish sufficient water for a dozen Milford Valleys. More than one Milford business man is actively endeavoring to bring manufacturing plants to our city, to supplement the rail-mine-agricultural payroll. pay-roll. And when Iliway 21 is built and you can bet your bottom dollar it will be built Milford will get her share of the tourist billions bil-lions that flow through Utah. To those who think Milford is "going to the dogs", we say the dogs are going to 5-.av an awful wait. |
