Show Construction To Begin On Link Of Salina Road Approximately two and a half miles of the Salina canyon highway high-way is to be completed during the coming . six months, according to B. P. DuBose, federal engineer,1 who, with assistants, arrived in-Salina in-Salina from Ogden last week. Mr. DuBose, as chief engineer,, will be assisted by M. C. Davis, who assisted as-sisted in the work on the federal project last vear. The engineering work now being done is to get grades, the most feasible alignments and to avoid the crooked roads which travelers are now forced 'to use much to their danger. With the completion of the engineering work, awards will be made to contractors for construction and graveling. With the completion of the present pre-sent plan of work, approximately some two and a half miles, and with the work done in previous years, will mark the completion of l five miles up the canyon. As has j been announced, completion of the road through the canyon and connecting con-necting with the highways on the opposite side of the mountains, has been planned on a four-year basis and each year will see additional work until the highway is completed. com-pleted. Notwithstanding the fact that many tourists come through the canyon daily, routing south to see Utah's natural wonders, there is more or less danger, due to the grades and the speed set by truck coal haulers. Opposition to the road through the canyon has been vigorously waged by Salt Lake and other northern factions, but realizing realiz-ing that the highway a short cut will sooner or later be a necessity, ne-cessity, the opposition has begun to see the need of the road and some of the boosters from up-state are urging its completion.
