Show ROAMING FARMERS In California there are too many wandering- folks from dispossessed farms and from dust bowls, Who go from farm to farm helping in the harvesting of crops. It is estimated tli at about 250,000 of these folks are spending a few days at each job trying to make a living as they go from place to place. It is a grave problem and one not easily solved. There j are bands of these wanderers living in miserable conditions, j It is interesting to leam that a former circus employe now j working for the government, has planned a series of moving 1 camps which follow the farmer worker as he follows the! crops. Eight u ticks carry tent floors, laundry and shower rooms. There have been 14 permanent camps established with wooden floors set up in rows to be used for tents. There have been about 50 families who have established homes here, each with a plot of ground to till. But this is a far cry from a solution for the larger numbers. It is a sad situation and the man in Beaver county who bemoans his lot, disregards disre-gards his plot, sighs over conditions and ignores his own advantages ad-vantages and take his place in the sun for granted, that man should consider the wandering family who live day to day with a prayer for his very existence. |
