Show Strict Law For Harvest Machines It is recognized that perhaps one of the greatest sources of the spread of noxious weeds is actually actual-ly in the planting of seed infested with seed of noxious weeds. This often comes about from farm machines passing from an infested farm to a non-infested farm, thereby mixing noxious weed seed with what would otherwise be clean seed. Also, any seed that might drop from one of these machines ma-chines on a farm otherwise clean, immediately infests the clean farm. The law provides that an operator opera-tor of a harvesting machine, before leaving, an infested field, (and responsibility is placed upon the operator of the macbine to ascertain whether the field is infested in-fested before he leaves said field), shall sweep all exterior parts and exposed parts of said machines free from noxious weed seed and refuse. In case of a combine harvester har-vester or threshing machine, same should be equipped with a blower, and the law requires that the machine ma-chine shall be speeded Up and all noxious weed seed and refuse be blown from the machine. All gears, pulleys, canvases, screens, elevators, fans, 'belts and other working parts must be cleaned free from noxious weed seed. Responsibility Re-sponsibility is placed directly upon the operators of these machines to see that the machines are free from noxious weed seed before they leave a noxious weed infested field. Failure on their part to perform this service will mean, in case an inspector or any other person finds that the work has not been properly done and sees fit to enter a complaint, that the operator is liable to prosecution. The law provides that permits must be obtained from the Utah state board of agriculture, before any farm machinery may be used for public service. Any person failing to comply with the provisions of this law is guilty of a misdemeanor, which, under the general statutes of the state of Utah, is punishable by imprisonment im-prisonment in a county jail not exceeding ex-ceeding six montsh, or by a fine in any sum less than $300, or both. |
