Show Rise of Brigham Young Brighara Young was born at Wlt-lingham, Wlt-lingham, Vt, June, 1S01. and died at Salt Lake City, August, 1S77. His early life was spent in New York state where he became a carpenter carpen-ter and glazier. In 1S20 he obtained from the brother of Joseph Smith a copy of the Book of Mormon. He was converted and baptized April, 1S:;J. and at once became active in the work of the new sect being made first an elder and then an apostle In Later he was made president of the council and still later the supreme head. He led the pilgrims from Missouri to Illinois and later led the trek which resulted re-sulted in the founding of Salt Lake City. He believed In and practiced prac-ticed polygamy.
