Show Auto Brake-Test; Campaign Starts To help make cars last longer and to reduce accidents, Utah police, sheriffs, state police and police departments will cooperate in a national brake-check program, according to P. L. Dow, superintendent superin-tendent of the Utah highway patrol, pa-trol, and chairman of the campaign. cam-paign. During a six weekc' period, from April 15 to June 1, all police will check the brakes of all cars involved in-volved in moving traffic violations, in accidents or those who voluntarily volun-tarily submit to a check. "A simple brake check has been devised," according to Superintendent Superinten-dent Dow, which will take a police officer only a minute to make. It is hoped that all motorists will cooperate in this wartime program in Utah, by having their btokes checked voluntarily and by aking sure the car is in good operating condition.' The campaign is backed not only by the International Association of Chief of Police, by the office of defense transportation, the army service forces and the office of price administration but also by the local police groups. In the main, Superintendent Dow explained, this is not an enforcement enforce-ment campaign. "We are not seeking seek-ing arrests. We want only to assist as-sist motorists to find when their brakes are deficient and urge upon them to have them repaired im- mediately for their own safety and that of pedestrians," he empha-! sized. The sheriff f every county of Utah, and the chiefs of police of the various communities, together with their traffic departments, are assisting. t -v ' . , i : ' " i ' . y ' , ' 4 I" - (-.-.. . -"".- - .'- - - :- - .- , , ,.. .
