Show Lions Club Elects New Officers For 1938-39ClubYear J. M. Hughes, science teacher in the local high school, was elected president of the Milford Lions club for -the 1938-39 club year beginning be-ginning July 1, at 'the annual election elec-tion of officers (conducted Wed-nesday Wed-nesday evening in connection with the regular bi-weekly meeting 9! the club. E. R. Moody, principal j of the high school, was elected first vice-president and E. L. Smith and A. L. Baker were elected elect-ed second and third vice-presidents, respectively. David S. Williams Wil-liams was re-elected secretary-tireasurer. secretary-tireasurer. Dick Johnson was elected Lion tamer with A. A. Mc-Intyre Mc-Intyre as assistant.and S. R. Za-briskie Za-briskie as t,ail-twister, with Floyo Kotiter as assistant. La Mar Out-zen Out-zen and J. Cass Root were elected elect-ed as new directors for two-year terms, to serve with L. A. Wy-naughti Wy-naughti and 0. C. Koch, holdover directors. Lion Hughes, as first vice-president, presided at the meeting which was attended by 18 members, mem-bers, Lion President R. R. Shannon Shan-non being unable to: be present Lions 0. C. Koch, J.R.-Murdock jr., M. H. Pool and L. A. Wy-naught Wy-naught had served as Ithe nominations nomina-tions commibtee"by - appointrrtentt at laslt meeting On the motion of Lion J. E. Wilson, Wil-son, a committee composed of Lions D. E. Kirk, J. R. Murdock and E. R. Moody was appointed to select, a location and otherwise prepare for weekly band concerts to be given by the high school band, the first of which was given Tuesday evening on the lawn south of the Union Pacific station. The matter of selecting, acquiring acquir-ing and improving a community recreation site in the' east hills was discussed and finally left in the hands of a committee composed compos-ed of Lions J. R. Murdock, E. L Smith and P. B. Fisher. A copy of the minutes of the I monthly meeting at Moab of the : Associated Civic Clubs of Southern South-ern Utah was read at the request of the association's 'secretary Rpy (Continued on last page) Lions Meeting (Continued from first page) E. Carr, who, in a letter accompanying accom-panying the copy of the minutes expressed the hope that members of the local Lions club would be present at this month's meeting at Delta this coming Saturday, and inviting the club to take to the as- sociation any problems in which the larger organization can be ol assistance. In accord with the spirit of the letter, Lions J. E, Wilson, J. R. Murdock jr., E. L. Smith, D. E. Kirk and J. Cass Root were appointed as a sort oi special good will committee to go to Delta Saturday, accompanied by as many other Lions as possible to back up Lion L. A. Wynaught Milford's member of the association's associa-tion's directorate. The trip will be made over the rouite of. highway 91-W, a pet project of the locai club, on which splendid progress is being made under a combinea county and W P A project, to -bring this important road connecting connect-ing the west part of Beaver ana Millard counties to standard state road specifications. The Beavei county section of the road, 11 miles in length and exitending from the Milford airport to Reed has 'been allocated something over 16,000 for grading, drainage ana gravel-surfacing, according to Lion J. E. Wilson, who, as a member ol the board of , county commissioners, commission-ers, has been instrumental in getting get-ting $5000 of county money coming com-ing from the state automobile license allotment and $11,000 ot government funds for use on this road, which is starting out as a beautiful piece of work, according to expressions from various members mem-bers of the Lions club who have been out to view the work being done. o |
