Show Double Storage Capacity Is Planned for Water System Decision to purchase and install a water tower-tank which will double Milford's water storage capacity ca-pacity was reached Friday evening eve-ning of last week at a meeting of the Milford town board. Several I prominent local citizens attended the meeting and participated in discussion of the proposal and it seems to be meeting with general approval of the public since it has long been acknowledged that additional ad-ditional water storage is desirable from many points of view. The tank that is being purchased pur-chased is one of 100,000 gallons capacity which has been in service some four or five years at Laurel, Montana, where the entire water I supply setup is being changed. I Milford is getting this tower-tank . at a bargain price, paying only ! $500 for what would cost at least $14,000 as a new structure; but ! the cost of dismantling at its j present location, transportation, and re-assembling at Milford is to 'cost not to exceed $7000, plus cost of footings. These are the con- tract figures entered into with W. T. Davis of the Davis Construction Construc-tion company, understood to be a California concern. C. J. Ullrich, Salt Lake engineer who supervised supervis-ed the extensive improvement of the Milford water system in 1921, has been retained by the town authorities au-thorities in a consulting capacity, and has checked up on the plans thus far entered into by the town. The new water tower structure will stand 150 feet in the air, the top of the structure 30 feet higher high-er than that, it is understood, and, in addition to giving the communi. I ty double water storage capacity, is designed to obviate the necessity neces-sity of using the booster pump, without which water service to some homes in the west part of town is far from satisfactory. The tower and tank, filled, will weigh some 480 tons and it is important im-portant that a solid base be provided. pro-vided. To this end test holes are being dug, with a site directly east of the present tank, but at the base of the hill, as the preferred one. Even here, however, it may be necessary to drive piling to provide a proper tease. |
