Show IS IT LOVE? Interesting is the recent ruling of the state attorney general on Utah's belly-robbing tax measure, the general sales tax, that daily newspapers must pay under that levying program as well as the rest of those engaged in disposing of other commodities at retail. re-tail. Just why this should have taken a ruling of the attorney general is not apparent to the layman. From the beginning the weekly newspapers have been required to pay the tax on their subscription receipts. Just what difference there is between a daily newspaper and one of weekly issue is difficult to understand under-stand so far as receipts of their sales are concerned. The daily newspapers of the state have for the most part been in favor of the anti-social sales tax, they have largely based their support (for public consumption) on the fact that this levying levy-ing was necessary in order to afford sufficient relief funds. Under the circumstances it seems rather strange that the undying un-dying love of these daily newspapers for a necessary relief should be fouled by their waiting more than a year after the sales tax has become" operative to secure a ruling by the attorney general on its requirements so far as their business is concerned. We wonder could it be love? Price News-Advocate. |
