Show Forest Service Plans Many Improvements A program of forest improvements in Region 4, which would be carried out over a five-year period at an estimated esti-mated expenditure of $3,651,000 per year, has been submitted to the chief foroester in Washington, D. C, by R. "H. Rutledge, regional forester, it was announced recently. Region 4 covers Utah, south Idaho, Nevada and western west-ern Wyoming. Included as one of the larger items is one for recreational improvements. improve-ments. This would furnish employment employ-ment during the summer season to 1019 men, and would result in the expenditure of more than $549,200 for material and equipment. The program would result in elaborate development of recreation facilities in the national forests of the region. Developments would include the construction con-struction of more than 1000 camp grounds, with stoves, tables, running - hot and cold water and toilet facilities. facili-ties. These recreational grounds which are near large population centers cen-ters or would otherwise receive heavy usage, would be equipped with community com-munity halls, playgrounds, and, in some cases, bath houses and swimming swim-ming pools. Forest service officials said Wednesday Wed-nesday that an example of the work which could be done in the national forests of the region, if the submitted program were approved, may be found in the Monte Cristo region, where there is an amphitheater, tables, ta-bles, stoves, and where soon running hot and cold water will be available to campers. |
