Show TO START WORK ON WEED CONTROL (By .Lew Mar Price) Mr. J. E. Blazzard, District Agricultural Agri-cultural Inspector, will be in the county within a few days to start weed control work. The work this time will be on whitetop almost entirely en-tirely .although some may be done on Canada thistle if it is ready at this time. Although a constant watch is being kept for noxious weeds we are continually con-tinually finding new infestations. Nearly every day brings knowledge of patches not known before. We have felt in the past that we had only a very meagre infestation of whitetop, but from the new infestations infes-tations we are locating each year it would appear that too few farmers recognize the weed on sight. In order ord-er to as nearly as possible hold this weed under control each farmer should feel it his duty to make himself him-self acquainted with this and all other oth-er noxious weeds common to our county, and then report any discoveries. discov-eries. Property owners could at least prevent therm ifrom producing seed and contaminating other areas, even if eradication methods were not possible pos-sible under present conditions. Feed and shade for pullets now will have a great bearing on the number of high priced eggs they will produce next fall and winter. A pullet pul-let with a small contracted skeletal structure cannot consume enough feed to produce many eggs during the first year, and that is always her best chance for profit. With good care leghorn pullets should be in production at from 5 to 6 months of age. Heavier breeds about one month later. If they do not get into production before cold weather Starts chances are not so good for the high priced eggs. |
