Show WILL BUY BAND UNIFO RMS FROM FUNDS RAISED BY SALE OF TICKETS FOR DANCE LIONS CLUB PLEDGES FUNDS FOR BANDSMEN . DRIVE UNDERWAY 1 The Milford Lions club has undertaken under-taken the raising of funds with which to equip the band with uniforms. In conjunction with Union Pacific employees, em-ployees, members of the Lions club will immedately embark upon the un-; dertaking which is calculated to be productive of results. I A dance is promised in the very near future, at which it is felt that all music lovers of Milford will be! .present, or else will have bought a ticket for it. The money raised by this dance will be immediately applied to outfitting our band, the balance J needed being donated by the Lions club. Inasmuch as it is a community affair, in every sense of the word, it is not believed that much difficulty will be met in getting- the money. Tickets for the dance will be on sale at Milford stores and by Union Pacific men within a few days. Preceding the dance, the band will parade and render rend-er two concerts. i The matter of properly recognizing the work done by the band, and what it can accomplish for the good of the town, was brought to a focus at the last meeting of the Lions club, held at the Atkin cafe, Wednesday noon. Leo Horton was present as a guest of the club, and brought with him an urge that the Union Pacific band be supported not only as a railroad band, but as Milford's own musical organization. It was quickly moved,, seconded, and passed, that the Lions club would guarantee the funds necessary nec-essary to uniform the band. It was pointed out at this meeting that the bandsmen have spent approximately ap-proximately three thousand dollars for their instruments; consequently are unable to go further in the expenses ex-penses of buying uniforms or music. Their willingness to render free public pub-lic concerts was .mentioned, which in itself is a well-placed advertisement for our city. A move is now underway for the erection of a band-stand for weekly concerts. It is hoped that the band wll be able to appear uniformily dressed by the Fourth of July, and it is hoped that citizens of Milford will take enough pride in the Band's appearance that there will be a generous gen-erous response when the sale of dance tickets begins. |
