Show LIONS CLUB WOULD QUICKEN INTEREST IN ORGANIZATION DISCUSS PREVAILING IMPRESSIONS ABOUT CLUE IN MILFORD The Lions Club met Wednesday noon at the Hotel Atkin cafe, and discussed the reasons why so many lines of activity and industry in Mil-ford Mil-ford were not represented by membership mem-bership in the club. President Jos. R. Murdock stated that the matter had been brought more clearly -to hs attention at the regional meet in Payson. The majority ma-jority of members at the meeting all took the floor and in their talks, declared de-clared that they were cognizant of the fact that the Lions club were functioning as a civic body, without the proper co-operation of other bodies and businesses in Milford. Among the groups not in active membership mem-bership were mentioned the churches, schools, railway groups, postoffice, bank, and town and county officials. It was believed that the cause of this lay in the fact that an erroneous impression prevailed among these groups as to the purpose of the Lions Club. The fact was mentioned that the club had been termed a 'price-fixing' 'price-fixing' group, when in reality, individual in-dividual stores nor prices are never discussed by the club, its weekly meet-1 ings being more in the nature of good-fellowIp, with the idea of constant con-stant service to Milford being uppermost upper-most in the discussions. Messrs. Murdock, Cline, Clay and Carlton gave detailed reports on various vari-ous phases of the regional convention held last week at Payson. Pride was taken by the Milford delegates, they i said, when they were able to report) at Payson what the club was doing for Milford, great in quality of action if not in quantity of deeds. The motion to support financially the Milford Band was carried unanimously. unani-mously. The nominating committee reported their suggestions for officers for the club for the ensuing year, and j the following men were elected: President, L. G. Clay I First Vice-President, Al Cline j Second Vice-President, M. H. Pool Secretary, M. P. Lewis Treasurer, Vernon Johnson Tail-Twister, Gene Kirk Lion-Tamer, H. G. Chanslor Trustees, Oscar Peterson, Joe Kinney, Kin-ney, Dr. Kohler and A. E. Smith. Other matters taking up the time of ,the club in a busy session were discussion of the road condition from Cove Fort to Milford, and the probability proba-bility of its being bettered; a financial financi-al report of the Follies show, which netted a little over eighty dollars to be used in civic betterment; and the remission of fees to the Secretary i for services, and allowing of expedi-tures expedi-tures to delegates to the convention. Guests at the luncheon were Leo Horton, of Milford, Mr. Evans, of Salt Lake, Secretary of the Utah Fuel ' Dealers' Association, and Mr. Hay- man, of the Utah Fuel company, each of whom made short talks. . j |
