Show EARTH RELEASES ARTICLES HIDDEN BY CAVE-IN OF 1892 Interesting relics of the days when mining was in its heyday in the Frisco Fris-co region, were uncovered last Friday at the Horn Silver mine. While excavating, men found articles ar-ticles which had been covered up in the mine in 1892. Dern Osborne brought to the News office the masthead mast-head of the Salt Lake Tribune of the February 6, 1892. There is part of a news story on the paper telling of difficulties between settlers and cattle cat-tle rustlers in southwestern Wyoming. Wyo-ming. Osborne also had a heavy canvas can-vas sack, commonly used for banking-money banking-money or in carrying valuable ore. Upon the sack is printed: ALASKA BANKING and SAFE DEPOSIT CO-OF CO-OF NOME. $10,000 IN GOLD. The relics were uncovered in a buried buri-ed cave, one hundred feet down, the site being on the Osborne-Conger lease on the north side of the Horn Silver mine. A cave-in occured at that spot thirty-six years ago. The articles lay in a moisture-proof, airtight air-tight compartment throughout those years, and when uncovered, seemed to be in as good condition as they ever were. y |
