Show WHY SUPPORT BOY SCOUT PROGRAM? 1. Because the Boy Scout Organization is chartered by Congress and is America's accepted program for boy development. The big objectives are character building and citizenship training. 2. Because Scouting contributes positively toward the major objectives ob-jectives of education: Health, Command of fundamental processes, Worthy Home Membership, Vocationnl Training, Civic Education, Worthy Use of Leisure, and Ethical Character. 3. Because Scouting directs for good the boy "gang" and a directed "Gang" is a community asset, while the neglected "Gang" is a community com-munity liability. 4. Because Scouting is a world brotherhood and a power for international inter-national peace and good will. 6. Because Scouting helps to discover a boy's real interest and abilities abili-ties and helps to give him vocational guidance and training. 6. Because Scouting directs the boy's reading habits and makes available to him good clean stories that appeal to his interests and inspires him to better behavior. 7. Because Scouting is a program of useful, attractive things for the boys to do. It is not something to teach but a way to live. It is learning by doing. 8. Because Scouting "is a process of making real men out of real boys by a real program that works" because it is adapted to the .individual .in-dividual needs and interests of the adolescent boy. 9. Because Scouting gives the boy the adult companionship and direction of a splendid man called the "Scoutmaster." In a way he tries to be a "Dad" to all the boys of his troop. 10. Because Scouting takes the boy into a clean crowd and he enjoys en-joys wholesome association with other boys who are influenced by the Scouting spirit and ideals. It is an adventure in cooperation with worthy companions. 11. Because Scouting is truly patriotic. It teaches loyalty to home, community, state and nation. He learns respect for the flag. 12. Because Scouting teaches service to others through the daily "Good Turn." 13. Because Scouting trains for leadership by giving the boys practice prac-tice in leadership. The Patrol Method of Troop organization makes the boy leaders responsible for a large part of the program. 14. Because Scouting means providing an opportunity for every boy to use his initiative and learn in a wholesome and protected environment. en-vironment. "Character is caught, not taught." 15. Because Scouting requires every boy to make the following pledge as a guide to his conduct: "On my honor I will do my best (1) To do my duty to God and my country, and to obey the scout law; (2) To help other people at all times; (3) To keep myself physically strong, mentally awake, and morally straight. 16. Because Scouting requires every scout to do his best to observe the following laws ; Trustworthy, Loyal, Helpful, Friendly, Courteous, Kind, Obedient, Cheerful, Thrifty, Brave, Clean and Reverent. |
