Show Farm News-Notes By LEW MAR PRICE County Agent Cottonseed Meal Poisonous For Swine In view of the very cheap nutrients nutri-ents offered in cottonseed meal a number of growers have asked regarding re-garding its value as a swine feed. It is not recommended that cottonseed cot-tonseed be feed to swine. They are said to thrive especially well for the first four to six weeks, after which some usually die, and more will die if they continue to receive this nitrogenous ni-trogenous food in their rations. Some get through safely, but the risk is too great to justify its use. Cheapest gains will be made this year where pigs are given all the grain they will consume with skim-milk skim-milk as a supplement up to 15 or 20 pounds daily. At present prices for feeds, hogs should be made to gain at a cost not to exceed $4.50 per hundred pounds. This will vary with the size and age of hog, kind of feeds available, etc. Gains will not be made as economical if milk or its products are not included In the ration. State Leader Visits County Miss Myrtle Davidson, Assistant State Leader from the Extension Service, U. S. A. C. spent first of this week in the county, assisting 4-H club leaders and members in preparing prepar-ing their exhibits and demonstrations demonstra-tions for the State Fair. Most of the clubs have completed their work for the season, and Miss Davidson says some very creditable cred-itable exhibits can be made of the work done this year. |
