Show MAURICEGRAHAH PLANE FOUND The mail plane, that was lost last January 10, when Maurice (Maury) Graham, crack Western Air Express pilot left Las Vegas, Nevada, enroute to Salt Lake City in a blinding snow storm has been found, and within ten miles of Cedar City. .Elburn Orton and Ward -Morten-sen, both of Parowan, who have been herding sheep in Kanarra mountains moun-tains for Harman Bayles of Parowan arrived in Cedar about 5 o'clock p. m. Tuesday bringing an unused parachute para-chute with Maurice Graham written on it in red ink, and told the story that it was found by a wrecked plane, badly mashed up but not burned. Apparently the pilot landed without with-out serious injury to himself and liad left, because no sign of the body was found. As will be remembered a terrific ter-rific blizzard was blowing in this locality lo-cality the morning the pilot was lost and it seems certain that he could not 'have traveled far in that storm regardless re-gardless of his condition. There would be from six to eight feet of snow lying on the ground, which coupled with the storm would make his efforts at traveling almost futile. Immediately after the boys arrived in town, Mortenson left to lead Sheriff Sher-iff J. T. Leigh, County Attorney Reuben Reu-ben J. Shay, J. N. Stacey and others to the plane with the idea of guarding guard-ing it ag-ainst any intrusion until morning when a search was started in an effort to locate the body. The parachute was found lying on top of the motor and had not been opened, appearing to have been laid there after the plane had landed, indicating in-dicating that the pilot had stayed with his ship until it crashed. Planes arrived during the night from both California and Salt Lake City, bringing men to take charge of the plane, its contents and to handle the search for the missing flyer. Iron County Record. |
