Show ('MM ATAIOtJICA LLY, A I'ECULIAK YEAR p p y Old timers around Delta and this vicinity say that they can't remember when we have had as peculiar weather through the spring and summer as we had this year. And it is interesting inter-esting to note that Uncle Sam's weather men say they are puzzled puz-zled to determine just what has brought about so much chilly weather in practically every portion of the country. There has been a snow already this year in Iowa. Proprietors of summer hotels report that the weather has not been as blistering blis-tering hot as they would have liked, and that as a consequence fewer people took to the water to cool off, or bot the many tilings offered for sale to cool the parched. Locally, the next three weeks will be the crucial period. per-iod. Much seed will be perfectly safe by then. Some of the late stuff to hang on may get nipped. But by far the major part of all the seed will be safe. If no frost occurs too soon, we will have one of the very big years again on which we felt so much pride. It looks as if might exceed eight million pounda. That la a bumper crop, and very likely to occur. In our own opinion it is yery silly to predict. And, not being a believer In phases of the moon aa affecting weather, we don't go by the calendar or the changes of the moon. There will very properly be a lot of uneasiness felt until it irt over. Our hope is that we escape any bad frost. |
