Show THE NEWS FROM FILLMORl Public Affairs and Local Happening! . it the County Seal The High School question Is rapldl) Hearing a peaceful solution, it Is re ported In Fillmore that the peoph on the west side are gradually and surely making up their minds to sup port a county High School at Fillmore with their votes and for a short tim with their taxes. There Is no pies tlon but what In a few years tin county will have grown to such pro portions that It ought to bo divided Into two counties. This is one fact that Is taking possession of the minds of many east side citizens, and con vlnciug Hi em that a division of the I county into two high school districts at the present time would really not be against their Interests in the long run. The acting county superintendent of schools has told us that he Is of the opinion that the east side would do well to support a plan of division, for two reasons: First, the west side people want a division, and In school matters at least we ought to try to be friendly; second, the west side Is growing more rapidly than the east side, and a division of the county at present would be more to the Interest of the east side than a division later and It seems a sure thing a division must come after a while. The law says says that a single Heboid district may maintain a high school after 1911-12, If It has a school population of .100. Fillmore has a school population of about 420. Hence It Is necessary that something be done immediately. What Fillmore wants Is the support of f lie whole county for one year, that Is, until a plan or sub division can be prepared and adopted. While the county Is thinking of this mailer It would be well to think of another matter of equal Importance. There ought to be a consolidation of the district schools of the county. Geographical conditions make It logical logi-cal that such a consolidation should be Into two districts an east side district dis-trict and a west side district. Such a plan would result In a saving of many hundreds of dollars every yeur In the purchase of supplies only. It would result In uniform school conditions and more effective supervision. The division di-vision for High School purposes and the plan of consolidation ought to form one purpose. Contention will never settle this question. ques-tion. What we want Is a careful and unselfish consideration of the matter. Friendly compromise Is much more to be desired than quarrelling. Quarrel ver politics, If you will, or over prop rty, but let us get together In work-ng work-ng out a system that has for Its pur-wise pur-wise the education, or In other words,, he salvation of our children. "No man an be saved in Ignorance" Is a favor-te favor-te saying of the Mormon people. The lernel of our faith Is the doctrine of eternal progression." The question s a religious one, we send mission-irles mission-irles to all parts of the world to help he people of foreign lands. We do lot (ear that the west side will neg ict to perform a sacred duty now of otlng to help the children of their ld neighbors Just across the county. In the debates Fillmore got th inanamoiis decision of all three udges In both debates. It Is the retard re-tard of clean, hard, Intelligent effort. VIII Starley and Josle Melville won or Fillmore over Reaver and Maurice .ambert and Noble Peterson won for 'illmore over Hinckley. |
