Mr. Lake has been In the islands for l'4 yean, first In the army, and then at work tor the government in drilling 6 and 10 Inch wells at a depth of about 2000 feet, procuring flows of about 1700 gallons of water per minute. Mr. Lake believes that he can procure a flow of water In the valley In and around Delta and Abraham Abra-ham similar to the flow In the Philippines, Phil-ippines, and If. seriously considering the proposition of returning to Abraham Abra-ham and experimenting with one of those wells. He Is now In Salt Lake City, and will go to Michigan for awhile, before his return. v The farmer around Abraham are reporting a good crop of alfalfa seed for this year. The ladies on the west side met on August 12th at the house of Mrs. E. E. Pound and organized themselves Into a sewing flub which Is to be known as the "Jolly Stitchers." They met at Mr. Campbell's who Is president presi-dent of the club, on August 26th, and had a very onjnyable time. Mrs. Capasxo will be the next hostess in two weeks. Guy llollenbeck. a young man from Colorado, recently came to Delta, and U staying with his folks at IMta part of the time and part of the time at the ranch with Mr. and Mrs. Frank Johnson, near Abraham. O. L. Lake and wife and F. A. Johnson John-son and wife audC. F. Lake and Mrs. Soules recently formed a party from near Abraham for a few days' camping camp-ing trip at and above Oak City. They report having a very good time, but were disappointed as fishermen. It is supposed that the trout are getting wise because of the big fish stories thst are being circulated about the country. J. H. Allison and Charles Frlberg, carpenten. are now finishing the bungalow bun-galow for F. W. Cottrell near the depot, on which they have been at work for some time. This bungalow Is constructed v. 1th cement blocks and finished In oak and fir. and Is artistically artistic-ally and conveniently arranged Inside, and la a credit to the ner and to the workmen who eontrurted It. Mr. and Mrs. Avery Bishop were blessed with the arrival of a new boy at their borne on Wednesday of last week. U constructing a new line from Delta to the south tract, which Is much needed to supply the Increasing demand de-mand for more service In that quarter. On Monday of this week an accident befell the pump and well near the Searle meat market, with the result that many people who get their water there have to go elsewhere at a considerable con-siderable Inconvenience. It Is to be ho-d that the town board will put down a town well with a watering trough and other conveniences for the public. These little conveniences when summed up are great attractions to the outside public when they come to trade, and frequently are the governing gov-erning motive whether the buyer goea to one town or to the other. Mrs. Jaa. A. Melville returned to her home in Salt Lake on Wednesday after spending the summer in Delta. Miss Ivy Turner haa returned to her home In Holden after a visit with tbe Misses Sylvia and Myra Turner. LeQrand Law, who haa been visit-lug visit-lug In Beaver baa returned to Delta. Mlsa Ethel Ward has been quite ill the past week, the result of a sunstroke sun-stroke during the late bested spell. Mn. Becknell has left for Mllford to Join her husband, who will be with the Irrigation company there until spring. Leroy Belts, the accommodating night man at the depot, and his wife, have moved from the Workman-house to the neat cottage west of the Delta Hotel. Mrs. Llzxle Clildeater has returned from Salt Lake to spend the winter In Delta. A number of California men are In Delta looking over the land and prospects pros-pects here. Most of them are buying farms and will move In their families snd goods as soon aa possible. We are glad to welcome them as the California people are a hustling crowd and they can find no section of the -M)untry where enterprise will get a better reward than in Millard County. Mrs. Fred Cottrell has returned from Halt Lake and Is now settled In their new and attractive home. Miss Ruth Is still visiting friends In Halt Lake. The Delta Friendly Women met last Thursday at the home of Mrs. H. F. Aller. After the reading of the minutes min-utes the resignation of Mn. Robinson aa president waa accepted. The ladles dlxcussed the prominent political women of the day. After refreshments refresh-ments were served all engaged In a guessing contest in which Mrs. Tozer won the prize. The next meeting will be with Mr. January. Bert Chambers has returned from a trip to Pioche. Dr. Thomas and family returned to their home In Kearney, Neb. A number of the fanners on the north tract have begun threshing. Among them are Albert Leutbauser, who has 0 acres of Turkey red wheat, 20 acres of red chaff and 10 acres of oats, beside a good stand of alfalfa. He has got 120 head of bogs which he will feed for the winter market. Mr. IuthaiiHer Is one of our most successful and enterprising farmers. A. D. Arkerman, formerly of Falrbury. Neb., Is also threshing 100 acres of wheat which It Is estimated will run 40 bushels to the acre. Gus Ne-myer Ne-myer has finished threshing bis fall wheat, which also averaged 40 bushels. bush-els. Miss Zoe Robert of Salt Lake was a guest of Miss Genevieve McClaln last Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Sigler were guest at the Hotel Delta this week. Mr. Bowmann has been In Delta the past week gathering grain to display at the State Fair In Utah and elsewhere. else-where. Asso-ciation. The Meadow orchestra gave a splendid splen-did musical program at the dance last Saturday evening.
