The roof is on and the carpenters are getting the front enclosed. They expect to have the drug store ready for occupancy by the last of the week. lelbert Scarle made a trip to Frovo this week on business. IN AND AROUND DELTA The Week's News from the Coming Metropolis Cars with settlers' effects are coming com-ing Into Delta nearly every day. Three came In on Sunday. Oue contained two outfits from Morgan county. Many settlers are living In tents until they can have more substantial buildings build-ings erected. A. II. Ward's livery Is doing a thriving thriv-ing business. Reside a great demand for rigs by land seekers, commercial travelers and others are patrons of the stnbles. The sound of the saw and hammer nre heard from morning till night In Delta, and building operations are active. Reside the new buildings on Clark street mentioned elsewhere, the following buildings are in course of construction on have been built in the last thirty days: House, barn and stable for N. S. Hishop Just west of town; a neat residence for Kd Hishop; postofflce for John Avery Hishop; barber shop built for J. W. Schwartz; Dr. Stockhatu's drug store; Moody & Cropper's office building; house for W. C. Smith; house for V. V. Colvert; residence Just started for A. U. Ward; office building for Dr. Searlght, a new arrival from Indiana. John Steele Is also finishing up his attractive bungalow. bunga-low. The Delta Land & Water Co. Is also putting up a new warehouse. Win Walker was over from Oak City this week to get some stock. Avery Bishop bas received his commission com-mission as postmaster, and expects to take hold of the office April 1. The sending of all the mall north has resulted In great delay and the change has long been needed. A. C. Sorenson tells us that the Delia Mercantile & Implement Co. has secured the agency for the New York Tailors, one of the largest mnde-to-order suit builders In the country. See their line Hue of spring samples. Hay Is in great demand in Delta owing to the large amount of stock being be-ing brought In by settlers. John Steele got In a car on Sunday from Leamington und it was all gone the same day. The Maker Lumber -company got in three more cars of lumber this week, rustic and dimension stuff being the principal Items. They can now fill any kind of an order. McClain & Copening now have a piano In their office and musical entertainments en-tertainments are of frequent occurrence occur-rence in the evening. Secretary Rlgby attended a meeting of the district school board at Hinckley Hinck-ley last week, the other members being be-ing It. K. Robinson and llosea Stout. The question of making Delta a separate sep-arate district came up. Hinckley Is ready to make the separation, giving Delta the present buildings and assuming assum-ing all the bonds, which is very fair, considering that Delta has got a good deal more out of the district than she bas put In. The expenses of the school here will be between $1.01)0 and $4,000 uext term, and it is believed that with her proportion of the railroad rail-road property for assessment purposes pur-poses Delta will be able to support her own schools. The railroad pays about half the taxes. More accommodations accommo-dations are needed here for our growing grow-ing school population, and It is not thought wbe to put up any more temporary tem-porary buildings and the town Is not yet able to erect a large and perma nent school building. It Is therefore proposed to rent. If possible, a room in the basement hall for another department. depart-ment. This seems to be the most feas-able feas-able way to provide the necessary accommodations ac-commodations at the least expense. Among the big sales of real estate recently reported Is that of 60 acres on the west side to W. T. Mason, representing rep-resenting himself and a number of o'hers from the same stale.
