Show amount of water to be delivered to the various companies. He has Jim: lnstulled a measuring device In the river above the flume A wire cable Is stretched across the river on which runs a sort of car from which the operator makes his measurements. The depth of the river Is measured every foot from one bank to the other. From this the area of the water Is determined. de-termined. Ily means of a revolving wheel placed at various depths and at ttoqueiit intervals across the river the average velocity of the at ream Is determined. de-termined. When these two factors are known the volume of water passing pass-ing In a given time Is easily calculated. Measurements of water are being taken at a number of stations above the reservoir. The Delta Company Is very slow in getting in the necessary bridges on the west side. There are no bridges across the main canal from the road running west of the bridge on the river to a point five miles north. Those who have tried to cross the canal between these points have come to grief, as the editor can testify. Farmers north and east of the gravel hill find themselves entirely cut otT by almost Impassible canals and broken wagons and miied teams follow fol-low every attempt to get out. The engineering force Is overworked now in building head gates and keeping the itinals In order, and the force ought t be Increased so that a few bridges could be built. The show road up through the center of the tract is in i Kood order, but travelers would find themselves in a predicament If they ( were to gel off that road, (let busy i Hid tlx up some bridges. : Ncphl Hour Is the best made, and lie Delta Mercantile and Implement I i'o. have sold three loads to Fillmore. It perform nearly all the functions of a bookkeeper bookkeep-er and with a phonograph attachment would pretty near' take the place of a salesman. The Hub evidently bellev'es In being up to date In their equipment equip-ment for -doing business. Although land buyers are not very numerous now days and land sales will be slow for the next three months a few prospective buyers are coming in every weekv, Last Saturday C. Adderly, Dr. J. W. Itracken and J. Keely came down from Ilingham and spent the day looking around. There was a livelier movement In real estate es-tate that day than we have ever seen in Delta, but It was occasioned by a big wind from the south. It was the most disagreeable dust storm we have seen. The gentlemen are coming down again when the country can be seen to better advantage and expe.-t 1 to Invest. I R. A. Nelson of California, who has I considerable holdings In this vicinity, returned to Delta last week. Heasly i Lros and J. Verbatim returned with him and expect to Invest here If they t can find something that suits them. The session of the town board last ' Saturday was taken up In consider t liig the proposed franchise to the Pe - pie's Telephone Co. and to Clark Call- lister's Telephone Co. One of the pro- visions of the franchises is that the 1 companies are to run their lines through the alleys, and Mr. Callister Is already at work changing his lines. ( He Intends to have a sw he'll board In s atalled at A. U.
